Why is Electra-Kool™ better than my panel fan with a filter?

A.

Simply put, Electra-Kool™ centrifugal blowers are more efficient. Panel filters don’t have close to the rating that our filters have (99.9% efficiency at 0.5 Microns nominal) and get clogged easily, restricting airflow to your cabinet. Electra-Kool™ filtered centrifugal fans provide forced, filtered air from the time you install it. Each of our cylindrical pleated paper filters has a much larger surface area, and thus longer life, than a panel filter and our prefilter wraps extend the lives of filters even further. Electra-Kool™ filters and prefilters are a breeze to install and maintain - easily mountable with a single wingnut and simple to clean with water and a rag.

What are other benefits of using Electra-Kool™?

A.

Electra-Kool™ prevents you from worrying about your electrical enclosures, keeping them clean and cool, thus helping your electrical system run smoothly. Electra-Kool™ is a complete cabinet ventilation system, complete with louvered vents for heat exhaust, an air deflector plate to direct air toward a hot spot, and a thermometer to monitor the internal temperature.

I bought an Electra-Kool™ unit and installed it, but very little air is flowing. What’s my problem?

A.

Most likely you have the unit wired backwards, causing the impeller to rotate the wrong direction. Rewire the unit according to the provided wiring diagram and you will notice a stark difference!

We usually simply open the electrical cabinet to let out excess heat, so why would we need an Electra-Kool™?

A.

Leaving an electrical enclosure door open is an OSHA violation and an electrical safety hazard. Dust, dirt, and moisture can float into the enclosure, causing electrical components to fail and creating a maintainence nightmare. By using Electra-Kool™, you safely prevent component failure and reduce factory downtime and maintenance costs.

How many amps does an Electra-Kool™ draw?

A.

It varies – our smallest unit draws just 0.49 amps, while our largest draws 23.6 amps. All electrical information is on www.electra-kool.com but you can also call us directly at any time.

How fast can we get an Electra-Kool™ unit?

A.

We stock all of our models and can ship the same day , provided we receive the order by 2:30PM. All Electra-Kool units are shipped UPS from our manufacturing facility in Broomall!

I always thought that I needed to buy an air conditioner for my enclosures. Can we use Electra-Kool™ instead?

A.

One of the benefits of an air conditioner is filtered, clean air, and Electra-Kool™ gives you that for a fraction of the cost, both to buy and operate. Most electrical components are effectively cooled with ambient temperature air, so the chilled air of an air conditioner is overkill.

What about vortex tubes?

A.

Vortex tubes are less expensive to purchase than air conditioners, but compressed air isn’t cheap! Electra-Kool™ will save you money in the long run.

How can I make my filters last longer?

A.

Prefilter wraps are an effective way of prolonging the life of the main filter and come standard with all of our pleated paper assemblies. Prefilters can be cleaned easily with soap and water, but after some time will need to be replaced.

Why buy a Mini-Skimmer™?

A.

Reliability. You don’t want to worry about your skimmer – you want it to last. Mini-Skimmers™ have the highest quality permanent magnet motor that has cut steel gears and an extended hardened steel shaft for the highest level of durability. They can last over a decade; in fact, this customer called us in 2014 to replace a skimmer motor he bought in 1997!! Mini-Skimmers also come with a timer, GFI, and oil trough extension hose. The cogged, fiberglass reinforced polyurethane belt is the strongest, long lasting belt around.

How do I measure a replacement belt?

A.

The industry standard is the reach, or the distance from the mounting surface of the skimmer to the bottom of the lower pulley. We can also identify your belt if you provide the circumference, width, and material.

How does a Mini-Skimmer™ work?

A.

Mini-Skimmer™ rotates its belt into and out of oil/water mixtures- the oil sticks to the belt, while the water slides off. The belt lifts the oil to a scraper, which wipes the belt clean, directs the oil to a trough to a waste receptacle. Head over to www.mini-skimmer.com for more information.

What is the best way to size up a Mini/MAXI-Skimmer™?

A.

First, determine what length belt you need by measuring the distance from wherever the skimmer will be mounted to the lowest level the oily water could get, then add a few inches to be safe, (being sure that the total length doesn’t hit the bottom of the tank). This will determine the reach of the belt. Next, determine the amount of oil you want collected . If the required collection rate is greater than 1 gallon/hr, you need a Maxi-Skimmer! Otherwise, a Mini-Skimmer will suffice, regardless of reach length.

If I order the wrong size skimmer, can I return it?

A.

Of course! All of our products can be returned if they are unused, but we may charge a restocking fee depending on the situation. Often times we offer a no-charge exchange to correct incorrectly sized belts.

How much water is picked up with the oil?

A.

Mini-Skimmers™ lift very little water with the oil. If you use a graduated cylinder to measure the Mini-Skimmer discharge, it will likely contain about 1% water, compared to ~6-10% water pickup with other skimmers. We have continuously refined our design over the last 25 years to optimize Mini-Skimmer for peak performance and reliability.

What are the benefits of a Mini-Skimmer™ compared to a wheel/disc-type oil skimmer?

A.

Disc skimmers have a narrow application – if the tank you are skimming is less than 6” deep, a disc skimmer might work. Mini-Skimmers™ fit many places where disc skimmers cannot and can reach very long distances, whereas a disc skimmer is limited by its diameter. Lastly, wheel-type skimmers pick up a higher percentage of water, often requiring a secondary oil/water separation procedure.

The thick oil clogs my trough and makes a mess. What can I do to address this problem?

A.

For thicker oil, like #6 fuel oil, we offer a simple solution - a SteepChute™ option. We replace the trough with a 6” wide stainless steel plate, which scrapes the viscous oil and directs it down at a steep angle, directly into a waste receptacle. Just call us and we’ll tell you all about it.
